Automotive Product Engineer- Tooling
Detroit Metro (PY-02110)

Summary/Overview

Leads tool design with concept support and instills engineering disciplines and documentation in the process.  Responsible for tool performance and cost optimization through efficient designs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Conceives end-effect or design

bullet

Specifies structural sizing using industry standard best practices

bullet

Specifies actuators for proper operation, reliability, maintainability and cost effective construction

bullet

Leads concept and design reviews to optimize performance, overall cost and component /process reuse

bullet

Develops engineering work plan for assigned components consistent with program objectives.

bullet

Tracks program timing related to design, release, component MRD and build--- follows tool through to customer acceptance.

bullet

Initiates Design Work Orders and reviews designs to ensure objectives are maintained.

bullet

Assists in developing engineering expenditures required to achieve program objectives. (Submits Purchase requisitions for prototype parts and test properties)

bullet

Initiates Shop work orders to develop prototype builds and physical tests

bullet

Originates or reviews and approves all program engineering releases and change using the Product Change Notification (PCN) process

bullet

Attends program core group meetings.

bullet

Provides Engineering management with program status updates on a regular basis.

bullet

Assists in reviewing and updating corporate engineering procedures

bullet

Reviews and updates job performance objectives periodically to reflect new information and new technology.

Education & Experience

bullet

Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or Equivalent Engineering Degree

bullet

In-depth knowledge of material handling tooling and their use in the plant

bullet

Experience specifying actuators and other purchased items for builds

bullet

Experience working on multiple compressed timing projects in small multi-functional teams to produce one-off products.

Excellent Interpersonal and organizational skills

Excellent writing and oral presentation skills

bullet

Effective group leadership skills   

bullet

Ability to quickly analyze structural capacity and actuator requirements using first principles and industry standard sizing practices
