Product Engineer- Chassis Development
Detroit Metro (PY-02105)

Summary/Overview

Concepts and develops components and tuning to improve vehicle dynamic and durability improvements.   Hands on Engineer for Chassis components including: Sub-frames, steering and suspension components, and wheel end assemblies.  Responsibilities include validation, prototype and launch support.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 
bullet

Specification and tuning of suspension components

bullet

Vehicle assessment including proving ground drives

bullet

Develops engineering workplan for assigned components consistent with program objectives

bullet

Completes all APQP required engineering documents for assigned program content

bullet

Tracks program timing related to design release, tooling, manufacturing, test certification, pilot, and production build schedules for all assigned parts and systems

bullet

Initiates Design Work Orders and reviews designs to ensure objectives are maintained

bullet

 Assists in developing engineering expenditures required to achieve program objectives.(Submits Purchase requisitions for prototype parts and test properties)

bullet

Initiates Shop work orders to develop prototype builds and physical tests

bullet

Monitors prototype and pilot build for adherence to design intent identifying and resolving problem areas

bullet

Originates or reviews and approves all program engineering releases and change using the Product Change Notification (PCN) process

bullet

 Attends program core group meetings

bullet

Provides Engineering management with program status updates on a regular basis

bullet

 Assists in reviewing and updating corporate engineering procedures

bullet

Reviews and updates job performance objectives periodically to reflect new information and new technology

Education & Experience

bullet

Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or Equivalent Engineering Degree

bullet

In-depth knowledge of all automotive Suspension types, geometry, and suitability for applications

bullet

Knowledge of suspension development techniques including performance and durability

bullet

Understanding of suspension parameters and tuning on vehicle and in simulation (ADAMS)

bullet

Previous experience in suspension design on major OEM programs

bullet

Previous vehicle development experience including in vehicle assessment and damper tuning for OEM programs

Basic PC Skills

bullet

Excellent Interpersonal and organizational skills

bullet

Excellent writing and oral presentation skills

bullet

Effective group leadership skills
