Automotive Interiors Product Engineer
Detroit Metro (BH03110)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Our client is a world-class leading supplier of automotive interior components and systems. The position is located in the western suburbs of Detroit MI. This Product Engineer position applies standard engineering principles and analytical techniques to the design and/or development of product concepts, components, or assemblies.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinates the complete development (i.e. design, build and test) for the designated sub-systems and systems to include, but not limited to coordinating design, shop and lab activities.

Incorporates customer requirements and regulations into the design of the designated sub-systems and systems, ensuring cost effectiveness and efficiency in design.

bullet

Creates product specifications in complex products and applies them to designs to meet customer expectations.

bullet

Analyzes sub-system and system level problems and formulates engineering conclusions by the application of engineering and/or mathematical principles.  Applies Value Engineering, DFA and PFMEA to the development of the sub-system and system.  Responsible for the development and maintenance of DFMEA.

Makes design sketches and oversees the design/drafting of the sub-system and system.  Approves the sub-system and system drawing for release.

Completes all changes for the designated components in accordance with established procedures.  Tracks part numbers and change levels of designated sub-systems and systems.  Maintains change control and content tracking information.

Provides build requirements of the designated sub-systems and systems to appropriate personnel. 

bullet

Develops DVP&R and witnesses critical testing to complete DV and PV within established deadlines.  Maintains all records of test sample content.

Files intellectual property disclosures as appropriate.

Coordinates and prepares engineering deliverables related to the assigned components pursuant to the Product Delivery Process (PDP).

Effectively communicates with project team and effectively maintains all appropriate documentation.

bullet

Coordinates designs with vendors, manufacturing, quality organizations and the customer where appropriate.  Meets with vendor representatives regarding design changes or modifications resulting from part interface or cost reduction proposals.

Consults with engineering personnel regarding design specifications, manufacturing processes, legal, safety, and government requirements.

 

REQUIREMENTS

Education:  Bachelors degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.

Experience/Special Knowledge:

Minimum of 3 years diversified engineering experience. 

bullet

Ability to apply academic and other engineering principles in the development of automotive components. 

bullet

Basic competency in CAD and GD&T. 

bullet

Working knowledge of applicable manufacturing processes, Value Engineering, DFA and FMEA.  Must be able to apply academic principles and utilize advanced math-based tools.

Ability to communicate effectively with all staff levels, both verbally and in writing.

bullet

Strong organizational skills and the ability to successfully complete multiple tasks within established and changing deadlines.

bullet

Demonstrated successful performance with independent problem solving, and presentations.

bullet

Proficient skills utilizing word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
